Mirto is a highly esteemed lawyer who has been practising law since 1996 and has unparalleled experience in corporate, commercial, and financial criminal law. He provides unrivalled legal advice and assistance to regional and international corporations, high-net-worth individuals, governments, and state entities. He earned a Bachelor of Laws in Dutch Law and a Master of Laws in Dutch Law from the University of Amsterdam.
Mirto’s career is marked by his current role as the Founder and Managing Partner of Murray Attorneys at Law since 2017. His journey began as a junior associate at the law firm Sulvaran & Peterson in Curaçao. He then became a Partner at Winkel Soliana & Grul. Demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit, Mirto also co-founded SMS Attorneys at Law where he served from 2002 to 2017.
His influence extends beyond legal practice into various prestigious roles. He has been instrumental in revising the Criminal Code and evaluating the Code of Criminal Procedure as a Member of the Commission established by the Minister of Justice of the Netherlands Antilles (now Curaçao) since 2003. He has been an Editorial Member of the Caribisch Juristenblad since 2005 and was Editor-in-Chief of said legal journal between 2013 and 2019. Mirto also shares his extensive knowledge as a Lecturer at the Legal Profession Professional Training Foundation since 2001.
He has served as a Trustee in the bankruptcies of Dutch Caribbean Airlines NV (2004-2022) and Dutch Antilles Express BV (2013-2017). His expertise in judicial training is evident from his membership in the RAIO (Judicial Officers in Training) and RIO (Judge in Training) Selection Committees from 2005 to 2016. Notably, at 31 years of age, Mirto became the youngest Dean of the Curaçao Bar Association, serving from 2001 to 2005.
In addition to his legal practice, Mirto holds significant supervisory and board roles. He has been the Secretary of the Supervisory Board at Curaçao Airport Holding N.V. since 2019 and a Member of the Supervisory Board at FirstCaribbean International Bank (Curaçao) N.V. since 2020. He has also contributed in various capacities to the Supervisory Boards of the Curaçao Investment & Export Development Foundation (CINEX), the Curaçao Development Institute N.V., and Panaderia Isa B.V. as of 2014.
Mirto’s editorial contributions include the indispensable handbook ‘The Parliamentary History of the Curaçao Civil Code.’ He is a prolific writer, regularly publishing legal articles in scientific journals and opinion pieces in magazines and newspapers. He is fluent in Dutch, English, Papiamento, and Surinamese, with a working knowledge of Spanish.
