Taharqa is a banker by profession with banking experience in Ghana and a former Senator in the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago (2017-2020). He is also a former Trade and Investment Consultant at the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Trinidad and Tobago. As an entrepreneur he is developing small-business intiatives in a.o. Ghana.

Currently, Taharqa also serves as Programme Coordinator at the Project Implementation Unit of the National Entrepreneurship Development Company of Trinidad and Tobago. Here he is responsible for administering Public Sector Investment Programmes of the National Entrepreneurship Development Company including Youth in business initiatives, Business Accelerator programme, Digitalisation and Standards Adoption in Micro and Small Enterprises.

His educational background was formed in the Caribbean with a Bachelor degree in Economics from the University of the West Indies, which was followed by a Master’s degree in Finance at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. His passion is rooted in the areas of Banking, Business Development and Financial Literacy and connecting opportunities in the Global South.

Since 2023, Taharqa is a member of Trinidad and Tobago’s National Committee on Reparations, which was established to guide a national approach to reparations and to contribute to CARICOM, Pan African and Global efforts toward a common position on reparations at the level of the United Nations.

In Taharqa Obika, CGG finds an equipped project and implementation director, with profound knowledge of both the Caribbean and African landscape, and a deep ambition to create wellfare for the people in the Global South.
